The rapid pace of innovation in information and communication technologies (ICT) is impacting every aspect of Caribbean life. There is a clarion call for the region to keep abreast with and understand the potential of these new and revolutionary technologies to overcome the challenges faced by the Caribbean and to drive meconomic growth.
It is imperative that Caribbean leaders consider the opportunities presented by the ICT revolution and adopt the technologies that can transform all sectors and promote social and economic development.
Against this backdrop, the Government of Antigua and Barbuda, in collaboration with the Caribbean Telecommunications Union (CTU), will be hosting the ICT Week and Symposium at the Sandals Grande Resort and Spa from March 20-24, 2017. Ms. Bernadette Lewis, the Secretary General of the CTU noted that the theme for the Symposium is “ICT: Driving 21st Century Intelligent Services.” She explained the purpose of the Week’s activities as being “to raise awareness of the ICT revolution, the implications for policy, legislation and regulations and how they can be employed to transform existing operations; to foster social inclusion; provide ICT-based the challenges we face in the region and promote national and regional development.”

En la Conferencia Smart Caribbean, Huawei, patrocinador platino de la Semana de las TIC, presentará cómo las nuevas TIC, como la computación en la nube, la virtualización, el Big Data, el Sistema de Información Geográfica (SIG), el Internet de las Cosas (IoT) y el ecosistema de Desarrollo de Software Kit (eSDK) se puede utilizar para crear soluciones integrales e integrales de Smart Caribbean. Las soluciones incluyen ciudad segura, centros de operaciones de ciudad inteligente, servicios gubernamentales integrales, transporte inteligente y aplicaciones para atención médica, educación y turismo.
El 15º Seminario Estratégico Ministerial de TIC del Caribe se centrará en la aplicación de las TIC en el sector de servicios financieros y explorará nuevos modos de proporcionar servicios financieros seguros para todos los ciudadanos; el uso de criptomonedas; ciberseguridad y formas innovadoras de financiar el desarrollo de las TIC en la región.
La III Reunión de Partes Interesadas del Caribe: Ciberseguridad y Cibercrimen facilitará las discusiones para establecer medidas y recursos apropiados para implementar el Plan de Acción de Ciberseguridad y Cibercrimen del Caribe.
El Programa de Capacitación sobre Dinero Móvil para la Inclusión Financiera, facilitado por GSMA, busca brindar una mirada en profundidad a los servicios de dinero móvil: cómo funcionan, las partes interesadas involucradas y los facilitadores regulatorios, así como cuestiones críticas como la interoperabilidad entre redes. .
